Kentucky State Bridal Association Meeting: Kim Speaks!

Last week Barbie and Kim had the pleasure to travel to Belterra Casino for the Kentucky State Bridal Association meeting. Kim was the featured speaker. "Trends in 2010" was the topic of her speech and power point, informing bridal consultants on the newest and best trends for weddings this year. In case you haven't been there, Belterra Casino is fabulous! The Honeymoon Suite and guests rooms are to die for. The chef is amazing and the facilities for a destination wedding are just what you have been looking for. Both Barbie and I are ready to return to Belterra for a little R&R. The very next day, Kim was a speaker for the Indiana Association of Bridal Consultants meeting held in Columbus at the very chic Hotel Indigo (you have got to see it.....so hip and fun). Kim spoke about her experiences at The Special Event Show, an international event seminar in New Orleans this month and the best trends for 2010. You Asked for It!

Ok, you've been asking for THE RECIPE. It is still NOT too late to bake them for the holidays (sorry I'm so late with this one, the weddings and parties have kept me busy!). These are THE ABSOLUTE BEST cookies ever. My friend, Mary Alice Roush shared the recipe with me.
Use them for treats at the office, for the TOP SELLER at a fund raiser or just to enjoy. Buttery, nutty, and rich with icing. You will be addicted like everyone else that bites into one of these little morsels.

Mary Alice's Thumbprint Cookies
Preheat oven to 375 degrees
1 C Crisco
1 C Fleischman's Margarine (honestly, just use every brand it calls for)
4 C Brown sugar
4 C All Purpose flour
4 Egg yolks, keep whites in separate bowl
2 T Vanilla
4 t Salt Yes, this is no typo. Just wait and taste........I didn't promise anything healthy!
Almond extract
About 2 C of unsalted crushed pecans
2 C or more of powdered sugar
Food Coloring
Cream butter, Crisco and sugar. Add egg yolks, one at a time. Next add salt and flour. Lastly, vanilla. Roll dough into small balls. Dip them LIGHTLY into halfway beaten and just mixed egg whites. Now roll them into the bowl of crushed pecans. Put cookies on cookie sheet LINED with parchment paper. Bake at 375 degrees for 5 minutes. Take out of oven and depress thumb or spoon into each one, making a little hole. DO NOT MAKE A HOLE ALL THE WAY THROUGH, just a small well inside the cookie. Put back in oven and bake 8 more minutes. While cookies are still warm, take small bowl and whip up a cup or two of powdered sugar, a TINY BIT of water, (add a drop(S) until consistency is correct)and a tiny bit of almond extract, (this is what makes them really good) and a little bit of food coloring. I prefer red so that I can make them pink. This could be a Valentine gift afterall! Drizzle icing into holes If it seems wet don't worry, it will harden as it cools. You don't want icing thick!
Now when everyone goes on and on about these, please tell them that your wedding planner gave you this recipe:)

A Little Help for the Holiday

We know how busy you are. Whether this is your first holiday cooking or you are the seasoned hostess, we wanted to help in some way. Now as the countdown begins for Thanksgiving, we have the PERFECT recipe for you to prepare. Share it with family, friends or the office. They will LOVE IT! I got this recipe from Southern Living's Cookbook and I must say it is incredible. It is easy and everyone will think you are better than Martha Stewart!
Pecan Pie Bars
1 3/4 C all purpose flour
1/3 C firmly packed brown sugar
3/4 C butter or margarine
1 C firmly packed brown sugar
4 large eggs
1 C dark corn syrup
1/4 C butter or margarine melted
1 t vanilla extract
1/8 t salt
1 1/4 C chopped pecans
Combine flour 1/3 C brown sugar; cut in 3/4 C butter with fork or pastry blender until crumbly. Press mixture evenly into a greased 13x9 pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 17 minutes.
Combine 1 C brown sugar and next 5 ingedients, stirring well. Stir in pecans. Pour filling over prepared crust. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes or until set. Cool in pan on wire rack. Cut into bars. Yield 2 1/2 dozen. www.southernliving.com/food

Each personal detail from the electric blue wedding palette to the IU Basketball Groom's Cake made it fun and very special for them. The ceremony and reception were both held in the ballroom. Only myself and one other person hold this designation in the entire state of Indiana. There are only 19 worldwide! My company, Kim King Smith Events had the opportunity to work with D. Hancock Associates a professional appraisal and auctioneering company on an antique auction that was absolutely amazing. The owner of the home was 96 when she died and the house was packed with treasures. Buyers came from all over the country and the auctioneering firm needed to make sure they would be fed. Well, my sorority, Tri Kappa was in need of $$$ and thus our first Kappa Kafe was introduced. The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure depends on a lot of individuals for support. Some of their grass root donations are the very largest and most needed. I had the privilege to be able to assist the committee with the Pink Honor Roll Banquet. There were over 140 guests that had worked, some year after year, forming teams and making sure their friends and coworkers didn't forget this cause. They are truly tireless!

All of these lovely volunteers were rewarded with dinner, recognition and door prizes. My company, Kim King Smith Events wanted to reward them with something for all of their kind and "sweet" efforts. Thus another fun and tempting candy bar is created by us. I can't tell you how much fun the guests had. Guess what? They ate all the candy! Now, isn't that just the best. What a reward for me to be able to contribute to all of these dear individuals. Thank you all so much!

Those unable to participate may join us for lunch and entertainment. Door prizes and a bake salee by Miss Sue's Star Factory dancers will also be on hand.

It's time to do your closest circle of friends a favor — find them a dress they will want to wear on your big day, and again. Because unlike Katherine Heigl's character Jane in "27 Dresses," most of us don't want to collect a closetful of fearful frocks!

Make a planFirst consider the theme or venue for your magical moment, because both your wedding gown and the setting will help point you in the right direction. Remember: Along with the bouquets, your bridesmaids will be your most valuable accessories.

After the paying party has decided on a price range, plan a "pre-edit." This is where you pull together an assortment of dresses before you gather the girls for a fitting. If you are dealing with long-distance friends, you may want to consider a larger retailer with multiple locations and a Web site.

Ask yourself the following questions to help narrow down the possibilities: Formal or casual? Long or short? Soft or structured? It's OK if you don’t know the answers (and may be better, leaving you open to a welcome surprise).

Consider the colorUnless you have your heart set on a specific color, let the dress dictate the shade. Trendy styles tend to look better in sophisticated tones, while classic cuts can hold a bold, vibrant hue. Decide whether the dye of the dress, or the details on it, is most important. Let one aspect take center stage. A general rule of thumb: Beware of brights — dark tones will help less expensive fabrics look rich.

Select a style
Your wedding should be timeless, not time-stamped. While current fashion fads may feel fresh and tres chic, it's important to consider the future. Will you look back and cringe? (Just flash back to the princess sleeves and big hair of the ’80s.)

This doesn't mean your only option is strapless and simple; just be sure to consider the "multiple factor." While an intricately designed dress can be stunning, three or more standing next to each other can be a fashion disaster. So choose wisely, because less may be more.

Pick the dress
It's important to like many before you fall in love, therefore I urge you to collect a rack of dresses. Yes, I said "a rack." Five to 10 favorites would be ideal, because your bridesmaids will bring each to life in their own way.

If you can arrange to have a group fitting, great; if not, ask everyone to try on your choices and e-mail you some photos with feedback. It’s important to listen and hear what your girlfriends think, but don’t make your decision at the fitting or under pressure.

If possible, pull together a collage of all the visual elements to be blended on your big day. Hopefully more than one will fit into your fairy tale, so that you can then offer your group of girls a vote, and everyone will live happily ever after!

While in the City, I met with my friend, Courtney, from Events Beyond and attended two exquisite European trunk shows with my friend, Wendy, from the Veiled Rose. I also got the chance to attend a great educational seminar on event marketing and met so many new connections in event marketing! Next stop, the fabric district, I just can't explain the many FABULOUS fabrics that I saw that could be used for your next event or your wedding! Utterly gorgeous! Row after row!

TODAY SHOW WEDDING

While in NYC I had the pleasure to have a "front row" seat at the annual Today Show Wedding. It was a beautiful day and the wedding was spectacular.

The wedding set was in a vineyard theme. The bride's gown was absolutely gorgeous. The groom and his attendants had on gray suits and the bridesmaids in a deep plum. Lots of gorgeous pink peonies, hydrangea, roses, all in large urns. Large wine barrels were set up as well as grapes intermingled in the floral. Meredith Viera had a dress on that I loved. It was in plum and I searched all over NYC for it. No luck, but I did find a great new place to shop. Check out Daffy's. It is labeled "The Millionaire's Discount Store". And that it is!

NYC: Inspiration, Fashion, Education and Fun!

Last week my friend, Alice, and I went to NYC. I had been ready to go for a year. Just couldn't find the time (I definitely need to do this more often). Alice is originally from Brooklyn and knows her way around. Soooo off we went on our second escapade to NYC together.

First thing we do is ALWAYS stay in Times Square. This is where the action is. I love the people, the lights, the taxis; all of it!

The Big Apple wasn't all play. I had the pleasure to attend the Today Show Wedding, visit two exquisite Euopean designer trunk shows with fellow friend and bridal consultant, Wendy, visit with my friend, Courtney who works with Martha Stewart and is also a bridal consultant, attend an event marketing meeting that would benefit non profits tremendously and go to the Broadway musical, Hair. Wow!

OK, after allll the work, I did force myself to do a little shopping; So Ho, Macy's, Fifth Avenue. Needless to say, Alice and I had a great time! Inspiration, fashion, education and fun!

60 Years of Marriage, Wow!

Here is a story about my mom's cousin. I really think it is inspirational. How many people do we know that are married 60 years? Make sure to check out the wedding details.....way below today's budget!

Long term commitment to one another is the secret ingredient to 60 years of marriage for rural Fountaintown couple Dick and Phyllis Wilkins. The Wilkins just celebrated June 5th with six decades of marriage. Elmer Richard Wilkins, age 20, and Phyllis Corinne Phares, age 18, were married June 5, 1949 in Indianapolis at Victory Memorial Church on Woodlawn. After about a year of courtship and attending two proms together, Phyllis knew Dick was “Mr. Right”. In 2 1/2 years of dating and an eight month engagement, they were ready to make the commitment of a life time; marriage.

When asked the details of her wedding compared to weddings today, there are not a lot of similarities. The average wedding in the Indianapolis area today is $22,000 (The Wedding Report/ Market Research/ Indy Star), while Phyllis spent a whopping $300 total on her wedding for 150 guests. “I had five bridesmaids (Sue Phares Brown, Janet and Joann Marley, Jean Eckstein, and Margie Whitley) and a flower girl, Carolyn Jonas while Dick had five groomsmen (Merrit Borden, Robert Phares, Don Lawrence, Bob Toon and Emory Hobbs) and a ring bearer, Pete McNamara. The girls wore floor length satin dresses in pastel colors of blue, pink, yellow, lavendar and green. We didn’t have anyone do our hair or makeup; we did it ourselves. All of our pictures were in black and white. I did order my invitations from a book at L.S. Ayres,” she explained. Her bouquet was a white orchid on a white Bible. “After the wedding we had a three tiered cake, punch, mints and nuts. There wasn’t a buffet, bar or entertainment. We opened packages in front of our guests and that was it.” Phyllis purchased her white satin wedding gown at L.S. Ayres Bridal Salon. “My head piece and veil cost more than the dress! The headpiece and veil were $49 and the dress was $49. I spent $98 on all of it,” she added. After the wedding, a friend drove them around the Circle in Indianapolis in a convertible, bearing the “Just Married” sign.

For their honeymoon, the Wilkins went to Jacksonville, Florida and stayed two days. “Dick got homesick and we came home,” she laughed. When they returned home it wasn’t any time until Dick went to the service.

“My advice for couples today is to be committed to one another. Most couples take it too easy. They get married, don’t like it and then they are done. You have to stick to it and share with one another; give and take,” Phyllis advised as Dick agreed. “Sometimes you have to do a lot that you don’t want to do.” Wilkins daughter Beth had several reasons her parents have been so successful, “My dad has always added humor to their marriage. I think sitting down, eating a meal together, attending church on Sunday and taking a family vacation every year have been glue to their relationship too, “ she added .

Sixty years and a lifetime of love is the secret to this remarkable couple’s marriage, with advice that is timeless.

These drinks are perfect after the gym, when relaxing or entertaining. Everyone likes something "new and different". These recipes from Weight Watchers definitely do. Check them out:

OK, we're in a recession and the spa seems farther and farther away. Try this drink recipe and bring the spa to you!
A Day at the Spa
Makes 4 servings POINTS® value | 0 per serving
Ingredients
Prep Time: 10 minutes + 6 hours to steep

1/2 medium English cucumber
1 small bunch fresh mint, about 1/2 cup
1 quart still water
Juice of 1 lemon
Instructions
Scrub the cucumber thoroughly and cut it into very thin slices.

Add the cucumber and all of the remaining ingredients to a large pitcher.

Place into the refrigerator and allow to steep for six to 12 hours.

Serve over ice and garnish with a couple of the cucumber slices and a fresh mint sprig.

Yields about 1 cup per serving.

About the Agua de Melon
Throughout Mexico many restaurants serve aquas frescas (literally fresh waters) of many varieties. Usually they’re made by flavoring water with fruits, herbs or even hibiscus flowers. While they taste great, aquas frescas traditionally contain quite a bit of sugar. I have found that a lighter version of the classic agua de melon, flavored only with a little fruit and a few other ingredients, can be just as satisfying.

Agua de Melon
Makes 4 servingsPOINTS® value | 0 per serving
Ingredients
Prep Time: 10 minutes

2 cups diced cantaloupe
1/2 tsp whole coriander seed
20 fresh mint leaves
1 quart still water
Instructions
In a food processor, puree the cantaloupe, coriander and mint until smooth, about one minute.

Pour the mixture into a fine sieve.

With a ladle, kitchen spoon, or rubber spatula, press as much of the liquid as possible through the sieve and into a large pitcher.

Add the water, stir and serve over ice.

Yields about 1 cup per serving.

About the Kiwi Fizz
The flavor of kiwi seems to make an appearance in numerous carbonated beverages. Here I rely on the natural sweetness of fresh kiwi and orange juice to achieve what is often done with man-made flavorings and sugar.

Ingredients
Prep Time: 10 minutes

2 medium kiwifruit, peeled and coarsely chopped
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup still water

Add the puree to a large pitcher filled with ice, and pour in the sparkling water.

It's that time of year again! The Fourth of July is almost here and time to get ready for some fun and entertaining. My intern, Susan, has been busy at work finding some fun food and drink to make your next evening "out"side explode with fun! Happy Fourth, Happy Summer!

Things you’ll need for a successful & decorative July 4th celebration:
• Colorful side dishes
• Tables cloths in varying designs
• Cups and utensils in red, white and blue
• Patriotic napkins
• Red, white and blue potted plants
• Star confetti

Be festive with your Fourth of July essentials. Use red, white, and blue drinks to entertain your guests. For a snack, skip the flour tortilla chips and salsa for blue corn tortilla chips, salsa and sour cream. You can also make homemade potato salad. Simply, use red potatoes, white potatoes, and blue (purple) potatoes

Be creative with your tablecloth. You can use a red picnic table cloth. To make a more creative look, layer a red table cloth with a blue and a white table cloth.

For plastic essentials use the patriotic colors. You can purchase plates and cups with star designs. To save money, use variations of red, white, and blue for plastic utensils, plates, and cups.

For centerpieces, use flowers that are festive for the event. Potted plants that are red, white, and blue will help celebrate the patriotic occasion. For an extra touch, you can add matching pinwheels or sparklers.

Fun Fourth of July Drink Ideas:

Watermelon-Lemonade Cooler (From SouthernLiving.com)
Ingredients
15 cups seeded and cubed watermelon
2 (12-ounce) cans frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed
2 mint sprigs
Ice
Garnishes: watermelon wedges, mint springs
Preparation
Process watermelon, in batches, in a blender or food processor until smooth.
Combine concentrate and 2 mint sprigs, and cook in a saucepan over medium-high heat 10 minutes. Stir together watermelon puree and lemonade mixture; cover and chill 8 hours. Remove and discard mint. Stir and serve over ice. Garnish, if desired.
Makes about 14 cups

Directions
Blend watermelon, lime juice, sugar, ice and water in a blender until smooth.

Blackberry Iced Tea (From SouthernLiving.com)
Ingredients
3 cups fresh or frozen blackberries, thawed
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint
Pinch of baking soda
4 cups boiling water
2 family-size tea bags
2 1/2 cups cold water
Garnishes: fresh blackberries, fresh mint sprigs
Preparation
Combine blackberries and sugar in large container. Crush blackberries with wooden spoon. Add mint and baking soda. Set aside.
Pour 4 cups boiling water over tea bags; cover and let stand 3 minutes. Discard tea bags.
Pour tea over blackberry mixture; let stand at room temperature 1 hour. Pour tea through a wire-mesh strainer into a large pitcher, discarding solids. Add 2 1/2 cups cold water, stirring until sugar dissolves. Cover and chill until ready to serve. Garnish, if desired.
Makes about 7 ½ cups

For a colorful dessert try a homemade ice cream cake seen on the Today Show and can be found at www.today.msnbc.msn.com:

INGREDIENTS
• One recipe Simply Strawberry Sorbet
• 4 cups of cookie crumbs (process 7 Newman's Own Organic O's — creamy fillings and all — in the food processor until finely ground) or finely chopped candied ginger
• One recipe Lemon Ice Cream with Candied Lemon Peel
• One recipe Simply Blueberry Sorbet
• Freshly whipped cream, fresh berries, and sprigs of mint, for serving
DIRECTIONS
Place a 9-inch springform pan in the freezer until very cold, at least 1 hour.
Make the strawberry sorbet (or beat premade, frozen sorbet until smooth in an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment). Remove the springform pan from the freezer and immediately scoop in the sorbet. Working quickly, use the back of a spoon or an offset spatula to smooth the sorbet into an even layer, approximately 1-inch high. Sprinkle evenly with 1/4 cup cookie crumbs or candied ginger, cover tightly with plastic wrap, and freeze until firm, at least 1 hour.
Repeat the process with the lemon ice cream and another 1/4 cup of crumbs or candied ginger, freezing 1 hour. Finish with the blueberry sorbet, topping with the last 1/4 cup of crumbs or candied ginger. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and freeze until set, at least two hours or overnight.
Chill a serving plate or cake stand in the freezer.
Just before serving, unmold the cake: Warm the blade of an offset spatula or knife in hot tap water, then wipe it dry. Run the blade around the inside edge of the pan, then unlock and remove the sides. Place the chilled plate or cake stand upside-down on top of the cake pan and flip everything over so the cake is resting on the plate. Rewarm the knife and gently edge it between the bottom of the pan and the cake to remove the bottom of the pan. Garnish with a mint sprig and serve with whipped cream and fresh berries.
If the entire cake is not eaten in one sitting, immediately after slicing, wrap it well with plastic wrap and put it back in the freezer. This will help prevent melting and refreezing, which can ruin the texture.
Makes a 9 inch cake.

Brides for Breast Cancer made a special trip to Indianapolis this spring and I made sure to be part of the supporting act to help them reach their goal; sell beautiful gowns to girls. All proceeds went to help cancer victims fulfill their dreams. As a survivor, it was important for me to be a part of this effort not only to sell gowns but educate others on how they can make a difference. Thank you to Brenda from It was a wonderful time.
My customer bought the first dress and then one of my brides came on Saturday and bought one too! What a thrill. What a weekend! What a cause! The Coach Hep Cancer Challenge was held again this year at Indiana University. My staff and I had the privilege of volunteering. I met so many neat people with such big hearts. The supporters and survivors there were a true witness that we will beat cancer and win! My wonderful fiancé Billy really surprised me and put a lot of thought into the proposal.
Billy had been traveling a lot and wanted to get away for the weekend, just the two of us. He rented a cabin in Brown County. Friday night we planned to stay in and enjoy the hot tub. He made me dinner, grilled shrimp and steak kabobs. It was delicious! He knows I love desert so he told me he was making me a surprise desert but didn’t want me to watch. The living room and kitchen was one big open space so he had me sit in a chair where my back was to the kitchen. He told me that while he had been traveling he made me a crossword puzzle to show me how much he loves me and misses me. So he told me to work on the crossword while he made desert. The crossword was clues like our first date, favorite restaurant, etc. I got to the last clue but couldn’t guess it. It was a really long word and the clue was “Rejan’s favorite surprise from Billy”. Nothing I guessed fit into the boxes. So he started spelling it for me…..W-I-L-L-Y-O-U-M……I was so excited. I knew what it was. He walked to me with a tray covered in rose petals, 2 roses, a candle, a picture of us and the ring and got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. I was ecstatic and said yes and starting jumping around. We spent the rest of the weekend there enjoying each other and talking about our wedding. It was the best weekend of my life!

Art of the Table 2009 was an event you did not want to miss. Whether you are planning a wedding, a party or a dinner this affair at the Indianapolis Museum of Art was the perfect way to discover new ideas and trends by Indiana's best bridal consultants and designers. I decided to do a bridal luncheon or bachelorette themed table. The name of my linens was "Warhol Roses". I thought this was a perfect way to incorporate the art theme of the IMA and a lot of creativity and fun. From the linens and Warhol I came up with Marilyn Monroe, Mick Jagger, Audrey Hepburn and more. Next I decided with all of these characters involved it would definitely be a wild party. This is where my theme (thanks, Marilyn) "A Party to Make Your Skirt Fly!" developed. While attending a recent seminar, I had the opportunity to get some pictures of very artisitic cakes. Most of these cakes are made with fondant icing. This gives them the smooth appearance and capability to be "molded" in some forms. Most of the intricate details are gum pasted. They are all a piece of art or is that piece of cake?

In November I invested in attending the National Association of Bridal Consultants Convention in Newport Beach, California. I try to do my best to attend all of the top notch bridal and event shows throughout the country and provide my clients with the very latest trends and details to make their wedding absolutely fabulous!I gathered so many new tips and helpful details for my brides. Nationally known speakers such as Colin Cowie, Mary Dann (Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?), Barbara Wallace and David Tuterra all attend and speak at this event.
Besides these top notch professionals, I am able to share with professionals all over the country to give you, my client, the absolute best insight and ideas.
While there, I also had the privilege of attending an exclusive couture linen open house in Beverly Hills! Wow, was that fun. The linen company actually came and picked 15(350 attendees at the convention...was I ever lucky) of us up and whisked us away in a fabulous limo to Beverly Hills. (Boy was that fun!! I think I could easily get used to it!!) These linens are exquisite and affordable! Just ask me about designing something fabulous for your wedding or event! Just this week I received their sample books and I would love to share them with you.

Mt. Auburn March Another Success!

Many thanks to all who participated in the 4th annual Mt. Auburn March for the Cure.the many volunteers, participants and donors really made a difference in the lives of many women. The Little Red Door Cancer Agency will use the funds to help women in need receive mammograms, detection and cure. Thanks to this year's co sponsor, Southwestern High School FFA. Also thanks to Southern Indiana Surgery for their donations and goodie bags. Special recognition should be given to Miss Sue Steele's Star Factory, Shelbyville, Indiana for raising the most money. Miss Sue's Dance Studio raised over $3,000.00!! What an inspiration and example for all of her students. Her leadership is incredible. Plan now for next year's event. The Flying Cupcake! A New Friend!

Look at these pictures and you'll know why I love the Flying Cupcake.
Located at 56th and Illinois, the Flying Cupcake makes the best cupcakes I have ever tasted! Kate, the owner, is now my new best friend (after she sent me home with a box to try). You should have seen and tasted them. Coconut (my favorite), strawberry with pink icing and cake (yummy), carrot cake (rich and decadent), golden with chocolate icing (my husband's favorite), red velvet (I didn't even care for red velvet until I tried Kate's whoa!!), traditional wedding (all white and almondy), traditional birthday (white or chocolate with fun sprinkles) and bahrumba (a buttery pecan flavor and toasted pecans make this sinful). Now, about the icing....it was thick and amazing. Each cupcake had icing to coordinate with the flavor. I just don't know how Kate and Gigi do it. They truly are masters. Besides tasty treats their store is so much fun. Little ballerina cake toppers, ice cream, vintage trays and candy treats make it a special place to visit. Thanks, Kate.

I just read an article from Paige Harden in the Columbus Republic Newspaper. It touched my heart and I hope touches yours. The article was about Columbus resident, John Romine. John is a 21 year old who is a junior at Purdue. John has been fighting recurrent, resisting Hodgkin's lymphoma.
He has had chemotherapy, radiation, a stem-cell transplanted and most recently proton-beam radiation. While waiting for insurance to approve the proton-beam therapy, the cancer spread to John's lungs. His last option is a bone marrow transplant. None of his family members are a match, in fact only four people in the world had the potential of matching and three of them were only a 60% match. The last possible match cannot be retested until the end of September.
JOHN NEEDS HELP!!He will continue having chemo to keep the cancer at bay until a match is found.
ALL HEALTHY ADULTS BETWEEN THE AGES OF 18 AND 60 CAN SIGN UP TO BE A DONOR. Registration is FREE until September 22nd by visiting marrow.org/HELP/Events/NASCAR/index.html.

The Edinburgh Cheer Fund, Love Boat:Be a Hometown Life Saver! was today. Over 75 individuals came to participate in the three mile walkathon for the flood disaster victims in Edinburgh. Yes, there weren't a lot of numbers, but we have exceeded our event goal of $14,400.00 in 45 minutes! Over $15,670.00 has been achieved and some last minute pledges are still arriving. Sponsored by Who So Ever Will Church and Kim King Smith Events, LLC, participants were treated to a big country breakfast afterwards and awards were given to the top teams. Hopefully by the beginning of next week we will have achieved our goal. In reaching this goal the 68 households that were destroyed will each receive a gift card. The recent flood has devastated the Edinburgh area. No, the mall did not receive any destruction, but the town of Edinburgh lost 68 homes. Yes, a lot of these individuals work at the mall and take care of you when you come to shop. All of these flood victims lost everything. Since they didn't have flood insurance it will be difficult to recover. When I visited the Command Center I was shocked to see friends and neighbors seated on benches waiting in line for relief services. This is a long hard process. It just doesn't seem real for this to happen so close and to so many! Who So Ever Will Church and Kim King Smith Events, LLC are sponsoring a Love Boat; Be a Hometown Lifesaver! walkathon on Saturday, June 28th. The walk begins at 8:00 A.M. at the church located on South Eisenhower in Edinburgh. A recognition Love Boat themed breakfast will follow immediately for all the participating teams. We are trying to raise enough funds to give each household at least a $250 gift card. Guess what?? I need to raise, with my friends and all of you, $14,000 in the 45 minutes it takes most of us to walk three miles. Now, I know this sounds wild, but it can be done. God's will and your kind donations of a $1 to $100 will make a real difference. Please consider joining us and collecting pledges too. IU Cancer Challenge, May 10th!

Register online now for the Coach Hep IU Cancer Challenge at coachhepcancerchallenge.org. This cycle.run.walk will be held Saturday, May 10th in Bloomington at IU's Bill Armstrong Stadium. The stadium is just east of the IU Fieldhouse on Fee Lane. Join the "Don't Quit" attitude of IU's legendary coach, Terry Hoeppner that passed away June 19th after a hard battle with brain cancer. My son, Derrick, and I will be working the Day of Event Coordination. Walkers, runners and cyclists are needed to participate. Attendees may participate in a 2K Family Walk, 5K Run or 40K or 100 K Cycle. If you cannot participate, please consider sending a donation and/or volunteering. Each participant will receive a red pair of shoe laces symbolizing that we are " all tied together in the fight against cancer." there is a $35 minimum donation request to participate. There will be a band, BBQ and several sponsors booths for all attendees. This is an event you do not want to miss, because you will make a difference. Cancer touches us all, whether we want to acknowledge it or not. Join up with friends, family and coworkers to participate and follow the "Don't Quit" attitude. Exclusive FFA Leadership Center Bridal/Event Consultant

Wow, I just received word that I have been named the exclusive bridal/event consultant for the Indiana State FFA Leadership Center! What a great place for a wedding or gathering!!! Working with the FFA Center will be so much fun for me, since I am a ten year member of 4H and I have helped Southwestern High School's FFA program with their 'Flowers on the Farm' garden tour.
The FFA program is such an outstanding experience for young people both from rural and metro areas. In fact, one of the largest FFA chapters is in Chicago! FFA instills, leadership and knowledge for today and tomorrow.
Now, you DO NOT have to be a member of FFA to use the facilities. The grounds there are gorgeous with rolling hills, the perfect meadow for an outdoor wedding and a glimmering 5 1/2 acre lake. The center also offers two banquet facilities. They can accommodate 350 in the larger banquet facility and as many as needed outdoors. This venue is located on State Road 252, just east of Trafalgar. Art of the Table

It was such an honor and pleasure to be selected as this year's Day of Event Coordinator for the Indiana chapter of Association of Bridal Consultants "Art of the Table". Art of the Table is the largest annual event the ABC chapter hosts. In memory of ABC member, Betty Jackson, Art of the Table showcases the many talents of the very best bridal consultants, floral designers and decorators in our state. Proceeds from the event go to the American Cancer Society, Hamilton County Food Pantry and Indiana Chapter of ABC Scholarship Fund.
This year their were a record number of 27 tables, all with a different themes. We were awed with a record attendance of almost 500 guests! This is almost double from last year!! Talk about ideas! There were tables from classic to contemporary and fab to fun. All of the tables were detailed with beautiful linens, flowers, stationery and table ware.
I formed a group and we provided two tables. It was so much fun! One table was Wedding in Paris and the other was Birthday Bash.
Morgan Matters shot pictures of Jen Swathwood and I walking the most awesome standard poodles up and down the Broadripple Canal! We used these shots for place cards on our Parisian table. The dogs were gorgeous and so sweet! I really felt like I was in Paris! Our other table was decorated in a bright palette of mandarin orange, sunflower yellow, robin blue and meadow green. Floral cupcakes were carefully placed on our cupckae tree with all kinds of candy accents. It was such a fun table.
Thanks go to the members of my very valuable and talented group which include: Claudia from Charles Mayer and Co., Jen from Card Ink, Anna from Outstanding Occasions by Anna, Morgan from Morgan Matters Photography and Tiffany from Flowers by Tiffany. Working as a team we developed a theme and tried to delight viewers with beauty and fun.
Special thanks go to the Indianapolis Star and writer Julie Saetre for providing great coverage for me and the Indianapolis Musuem of Art for their great hospitality. Thank you to Anthony Wilson of On3 Photography for the awesome pictures.
